“We interrupt this broadcast. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for …”
I hope you have never heard those words.
By virtue of growing up in the deep South, I have heard them too many times to count. It happened again this week, more than once this week. While I have been so fortunate to never experience true destructive tornado damage outside of some hail damage, limbs and a few days without the convenience of electricity, many friends have not been so lucky. I know too many families whose lives have been forever changed because of a tornado or hurricane. This week, I interrupt my normal entertainment law, copyright and trademark chatter to ask you to consider helping.
What I love most about creative people is their innately generous spirit. They give of themselves every time they create. My friends at the Mabus Agency in Tupelo, Mississippi did just that after the tornado destroyed a good part of the town, families and homes in Tupelo, Mississippi. Instead of waiting on a big organization or the government to step-in and help, they created a website to serve as a resource to aggregate and fulfill needs. The website is Tupelo Strong and you can find it by clicking on that link or going HERE. People can post needs, be reunited with their pets and even perhaps find keepsakes that were strewn miles away.
For you readers, there is a place to give or to find a need that you can perhaps fill. That’s what I’m asking for you to do this week – visit and find a need you can fulfill. If each of my 1,300 followers donated only $10.00 my little blog could make a difference of $13,000 to help get people back on their feet. I ask that you copy the link to your Twitter feed, Facebook or simply email out to your contacts, if you are unable to financially help. It’s people taking care of people and a creative group using their talents and what they do best to make a difference.
We’ll return to normal intellectual property law and entertainment law talk next week. Until then, Stay Tuned In.
